Summer Fair / Classic Vehicle Show 2018
Despite the extremely hot weather and lower attendance probably due to the conditions this year's Summer Fair and Classic Vehicle Show managed to attract over 40 Classic Vehicles and raised the magnificent sum of over £1,260! Our sincere thanks go to the many helpers on the day, Tongham Community Centre for allowing us use of their facilities and all who attended and spent their money. Very special thanks go to Chambers Waste Management PLC who very generously added an additional £500 to this total.
We are always looking for small prizes and goods that we can include in the many Tombolas that we hold. In addition, we would like your old toner and ink cartridges; stamps; foreign coins; mobile phones. If you have anything that may be suitable that you can donate to us, please visit our Contact Us page and drop us an email with the details. Thank you.
The Autumn/Winter 2017 issue of the new Shooting Star Children's Hospices magazine can be downloaded here. It is a really fantastic read and details the work of Shooting Star Children's Hospices in their support of the babies, children and young adults with life-limiting conditions and their families.
We are currently trying to find a more comfortable venue for our next Quiz Night. Once this has been organised and a date fixed we shall be emailing Entry Forms to all of our previous "Quizzers" to let them know.
"Another great Quiz and lovely food! Can't wait for the next one." March 2013
Who Are We and What Do We Do ?
The Ash Friends of Shooting Star Children's Hospices are a group of dedicated volunteers raising money for Shooting Star Children's Hospices, a leading children's hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, they are there to make every moment count. They support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
Their bespoke support is free of charge to families and available 365 days a year. Care service includes short breaks at their two hospices (Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher's in Guildford), Hospice at Home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family.
It costs £9.5 million a year to maintain the current level of care and, with around 10% of their income coming from government funding, they rely on supporters' generosity to keep the service running. What's more, there are many more families desperate for this vital support, so it's crucial they raise more funds to provide more care.
As Chairman of our group, I am very fortunate to have such a dedicated and hardworking Committee - my thanks to them. I would also like to thank family members and friends who also give up a lot of their time to help us.
